HIGH TUNNEL MANAGER (FULL TIME & YEAR ROUND)

The High Tunnel Manager is responsible for all aspects of in-ground growing in our high tunnels. The manager will work independently and, when workload requires, with a small crew. Responsibilities include crop maintenance, pest and disease control, regular fertilization, fencing, mowing, weed wacking, and general maintenance of the high tunnel infrastructures. This is a full time, year round position ranging between 45-55 hours a week at peak season, and 30-40 hours a week during slower months. We are looking for a self motivated individual with a strong interest in tunnel production, the ability to work independently as well as manage a small Spanish-speaking crew, and cooperate with other managers to determine crop marketability, harvest, and production scheduling.


The high tunnel manager will work with all members of the farm team on projects pertaining to crop and infrastructure care.We expect this position to require the support of all managerial staff for many tasks and seasonal staff for the labor intensive plant care aspects like pruning, trellising, and cleanup.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • High Tunnel Plant Care

  • Diagnosing and monitoring pests & diseases

  • Creating, monitoring, and adjusting fertilizer and input scheduling

  • Monitoring and maintaining tunnel environments

  • Irrigation Setup and Maintenance

  • Communicating labor needs and managing a small crew as needed

  • General maintenance and construction

  • Cleanup & organization

  • Record Keeping & Planning

  • Helping with other farm tasks as needed

PREFERRED BACKGROUND SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

3+ years experience on a commercial vegetable farm
High tunnel production experience
Strong work ethic and great attitude
Ability to work quickly and efficiently without supervision
Bilingual verbal capabilities preferred (Spanish and English)
Employees must be able to safely lift 50+ lbs

$22/hr-$26/hr based on experience

SCHEDULE

The nature of tunnel work often requires the tunnel manager to adjust their own schedule according to the weather or spray requirements. The tunnel manager is expected to convey schedule shifts to their manager

  • April/May - December: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:30/5pm

  • January - March/April: 4 days/week approx 8hr days

  • There is an alternating half day Saturday schedule May - August (one on, one off)

  • There is a half day Saturday schedule September & October for harvest season

START DATE: this position starts as soon as possible, preferably by Nov. 1st, so that our current high tunnel manager can train you ahead of the 2027 season!
