The MX Morningstar Store is a warm and welcoming year-round retail destination situated on our 40 acre organic vegetable farm located 10 minutes outside of Hudson in Claverack, NY. We pride ourselves on offering a beautiful display and selection of the most inspiring and ethical ingredients for home and professional cooks seeking the best of the Hudson Valley. We specialize in organic produce and carry a variety of fish, meat, cheese, dry goods, and other local and specialty food products, fruit, and imported goods. We also carry a wide variety of seasonal items like plant starts, wreaths, flowers, and pumpkins as well as hosting weekend pop-ups. Part of the magic of our store experience is our staff, and our team is growing! Anyone joining our team is extensively trained in personable and professional high touch customer service as well as displaying and maintaining high quality produce offerings. We believe that maintaining a high level of care, communication and understanding with our team leads to a pleasant and engaging work environment and customer experience.

Full time retail staff role:

Full time retail staff are part of a small team operating a busy and farm-adjacent store front, and as such the responsibilities are very active and physically demanding in nature.Though most of the working hours are spent within the store, various other duties regularly require working in different conditions, such as the unheated prep area, walk-in coolers and outdoors. Applicants should review the qualifications section below before applying.

  • Full time is defined as 40hrs/week, or 5 x 8hr shifts.

  • Our schedule generally stays the same week-to-week, however open availability is strongly preferred to allow for scheduling flexibility throughout the changing seasons. 

  • All full time staff work a variety of shifts, with a minimum of 2 closing shifts per week.

  • Opening shifts are 8am - 4pm. Closing shifts are 11am - 7pm. Mid shifts are 10am - 6pm

  • The wage range for full time positions is $18-22/hr depending on experience and availability.

Part time casher role:

Front of house summer cashiers are responsible for maintaining staff coverage on the sales floor during the busiest days of the week, distributing CSA shares, helping customers, and keeping sales operations running smoothly.

  • Scheduled weekly Friday through Sunday, 10am to 6pm, through the end of August.

  • Additional days + seasonal extensions are available for the right candidate if full-time work is desired beyond August.

  • Part time cashier positions are starting at $18/hr.

All applicants must have weekend availability.

Routine Duties & Responsibilities: summer cashier/front of house

● Running the store:
Staffing the register & bagging customer purchases

Restocking register supplies: stamping paper bags, restocking bags, maintaining change reserve

Answering customer questions & giving guidance on vegetable prep/storage.

Distributing CSA shares

General maintenance of store “ambiance.”

Various cleaning duties depending on day: dusting, sweeping, general tidying

Routine Duties & Responsibilities: full time staff

Opening the store:

  • Building up the daily produce display

  • Organizing dry goods & bread shelves

  • Stocking, organizing, and fronting the fridges and freezers as needed.

  • Produce prep: cleaning, sorting and bunching as needed to maintain quality and make produce shelf ready.

Running the store:

  • Staffing the register & bagging customer purchases

  • Restocking & keeping the store looking neat and shelves piled high.

  • Answering customer questions & giving guidance on vegetable prep/storage.

  • General maintenance of store “ambiance.”

Closing the store:

  • Putting away fresh fruit & produce, including: rehydrating, etc.

  • Composting vegetable scraps & keeping shrink logs updated

  • End of Day Cleaning: sweeping shelves, vacuuming, mopping, wiping down surfaces

  • Cash drawer consolidation

Miscellaneous Tasks, varying by day/season:

  • Receiving deliveries

  • Organizing the walk-in

  • Taking inventory

  • Prepping fruit/vegetables for sale

  • Maintaining the outdoor space in front of the store

Cleaning Duties: - all positions

  • Vacuuming and mopping

  • Cleaning windows, light fixtures, doors, shelves, displays, floor etc.

  • Taking out compost, indoor & outdoor trash and recycling

  • Other miscellaneous cleaning duties as needed. {cleaning duties extend to our communal break room and bathroom which is cleaned by all staff on rotation. Please refer to the employee manual}

Qualifications & Expectations: all roles

● At least 1 year of experience working in a retail store

● Proficiency using Square POS systems

● Ability to keep up with physicality of job: standing, bending, reaching, lifting 40lbs safely

and comfortably

● Comfortable working in a range of environments

● Friendly and motivated to work independently as well as with a team

● Strong social skills and professional customer-facing attitude

● Ability to work quickly and efficiently without supervision

● Ability to stay focused, organized and on task in active work environments

● Strong communication skills

● Strong attention to detail
